2005 Reports
May 6, 2005- Ed Petrowski party had 30 Bass on Bunker 18 to 25 lbs. There here!!!
May 9, 2005- Tom Fornicola crew had 15 Bass to 27
May 10, 2005- Brian Murray family caught 25 Bass to 36 ½ lbs. Wow!
May 11, 2005- Al Folsam crew had over 30 fish to 25lbs.
May 12, 2005- Jim Belario family had 30 Bass to 26 lbs. On Bunker.
May 13, 2005- O.B Fish Co. had over 30 Bass to 23 lbs. On Bunker.
May 14, 2005- STRIPER SCHOOL students were out this morning and we boated 2 Bass at 25lbs. And a few 20 lbers. Plus loads of lues.
May 15, 2005- Chris Kostue party had 25 Bass to 24lbs. On live Bunker.
May 4, 2005- Dr. Ryan charter started out the season with a good pick on clams- also a few on worms in the rip. Throwing back a lot of 30 to 32 fish already! Not good. Bunker chunkin soon will see more fish over 34.
2004 Reports
November 17, 2004- Rick Kelly and the boys put together a good catch to 21 lbs. On eels in the channels. 5 over 34 inches! The sly bass-man was high hook. Smooth cat.
October 31,2004- Andy Compton party trick or treated with Capt. Nick dressed as male dancers today!!!! The eels they presented caught a few Bass on the N.Y. side. Figures.
October 28, 2004- Duke Smith party was back in full force with 20 Bass to 35 inches! Kelly Rawleys afternoon trip only caught a few fish.
October 27, 2004- Gensen party scratched out a few Bass on a picky morning.
October 26, 2004- Tim Gibney Party crushed the Bass with 20 fish to 38 inches! Worms and eels. The afternoon trip for Galinus party was awful; the fish would not bite
October 17, 2004- Well talk about a breeze! The Deborah family braved the wind for 10 Bass and lots of Blues this afternoon
October 15, 2004- After a few blow-outs with the wind Capt. Nick got out this morning with the Ed Petrowski crew. The guys crushed the Bass with over 40 fish caught to 33 inches! A lot of shorts and slots on worms and eels in the rip!
October 8, 2004- Chuckie Burroughs crew had over 30 Bass on worms this morning at Flynns Knoll, mostly slots and a lot of fish in the 28 to 34 range- which you cant take now! Lets change that next year!
October 7, 2004- Concept 250 inc. had a great trip with over 25 Bass caught on worms and eels off the Hook
October 6, 2004- Barry Franzoni party caught a few Bass as well as Blues and Albies.
October 4, 2004- Tom Fornicola party had 3 Bass and loads of Blues and Sea bass
September 17, 2004- Ed Petrowski party had 10 Bass to 30 on worms and eels in the rip plus loads of Blues jigging in the Bay.
August 22,2004- Joe Giordano party had a few small Bass and lots of blues.
August 23, 2004- Joe Laws party had a few Bass, Blues and Fluke. Bob Mefter party had a load of Blues jigging in the Bay.
August 29,2004- Hanrahan Party had a few small Bass, cocktail Blues and some Fluke.
August 3, 2004 - Well the dog days of summer are here. Bass fishing is hanging on by a thread on the knoll with clams, mostly small fish. Night worming and eeling is the way to go right now. SQUID WORMS are doing a good job aboard the party boat TEAL! Try em. Fluke fishing is o.k.; a lot of shorts; this week was slightly better with keepers up to 7 lbs. weighed in at the TACKLE BOX. No sign of Weaks either. Bring the kids out for Porgies! Good luck.
June 20 2004 - Dan Roco party had 30 fish to 41 lbs! Another over 40! What a month!
June 19, 2004 - RUGGIERO seafood party was out and crushed them to Al's 38 lber!
June 18, 2004 - Joel party had 20 Bass to 28lbs.
June 16, 2004 - Adolfo and Bryan from CHAOS FISHING RODS were in from FLA. and jumped on the TACKLE SPORTFISHING boat with Capt. Nick for one of the most incredible fishing trips ever- 60 Bass were caught over 25 lbs. up to Adolfos 38 lber.! WOW! The boys really put to test some of their new rods- Come check them out at the shop today. 6/17- Vill party had 10 Bass; with 2 over 35lbs
June 15, 2004 - Chris Venezia party had over 30 Bass to 25lbs
June 13, 2004 Rocky Ruggiero party had 7 Bass to 18lbs. 6/13- p.m.- Larsen party had the limit chunking the knoll tonight!
June 12, 2004 - Here we go again! Afternoon trip knocked the heck out of them; 10 Bass over 30 lbs. up to 38 lbs. for Craig/ Emilio party! Down the beach.

June 3, 2004 - Well talk about a BONANZA! Duke Smith was back again for another incredible trip! Duke's party crushed the Bass up to a fish over 40 lbs. that they released!! Nice job, Duke! These guys have had at least 10 fish over 30lbs. this month! HELLO! The p.m. trip for Eric Gensen was just as good
June 2, 2004 - WOW!! Talk about Big Bass- Bob Munchel party put the biggest Bass ever in the boat with a 43 lber!!! plus many others over 30lbs! Capt. Nick put the party into schools of Bunker chowing on Monster Bass all day long

2004 Cartoppers Tournament:
Capt. Nick Laviola and mate Capt. Chris Buchta of TACKLE BOX SPORTFISHING caught over 60 Bass over 20lbs. on Saturdays two charters-including 4 over 30 lbs. up to 32! WOW!! Combined weight of 62lbs. was good for 2nd place in BAHRS/ MON.BCH. Tourney. "This week has been unreal" said Capt. Nick; "I've never seen anything like it- every fish is big!" "This week alone we have had 10 fish over 30 lbs., two at 32 lbs and pulled the hook on one that looked about 40!" I hope it keeps up. Congrats boys!!!!!

THE NEW "TACKLE BOX SPORTFISHING" BOAT IS HERE!!! Our new boat has finished the 2004 boat show tour and today was the first scheduled charter of the year. The Chris Venezia party had the honors and Capt. Nick LaViola was at the helm. It didn't take long to christen the new boat with STRIPER scales!! TACKLE BOX SPORTFISHING'S; "STRIPER SPECIAL" had 34 Bass to 15lbs. on clams at Romer shoals. It should really get going this week with larger fish; get out there. Thanks to our sponsors this year; TRUE WORLD MARINE, YANMAR diesel, ST. CROIX and CHAOS rods, AVET reels and FISHERMAN'S CHOICE BAIT !! This is going to be an awesome season. Stay tuned.

October 6th 2003 - Capt. Nick had the Jeff Williams party out for over 30 Stripers on SQUID EELS and live eels! Up to 18 lbs. all in the dark
October 5th 2003 - Donald Shima party only found a few Bass this a.m. trip on top
October 4th 2003 - Jim Gotay party had over 20 Bass on topwater jigs and shads
October 3rd 2003 - Sid Christianson party had 10 Bass to 32" on SQUID EELS and live eels
September 30th 2003 - The Lee party from CT. had a tough night with only 1 Bass caught, seems like a week to early
September 15th 2003 - Capt. Nick had the Rosenblum family out for over 30 Blues jigging and one Striper on worms. NOTE; Had to reschedule alot of trips due to weather/tropical storm situation. Stay tuned!

August 22nd 2003 - Capt. Phil had Phil Carlson from Venice,Fl. out for 6 Bass to 34" on clams, alot of small Blues were jigged on 007 jigs around the Hook as well as a couple of Fluke.
August 20th 2003 - Capt. Phil Sciortino; went out with my sons; Philip III and Paddy. Scouting around for Bass; We caught 3 Stripers to little Philip's 14 lber. (see trophy room picture!) on clams and a sand shark- Paddy was thrilled! A nice morning with the boys
July 29th 2003 -Duke Smith's 2nd trip was another awesome morning; 30 Bass to 34" on clams!
July 25th 2003 - Duke Smith family from PA. was back for the first trip of a double header this morning and had 30 Bass to 32".

April 27, 2003 - The Dave Walsh party had 45 stripers on Romer Shoals on Clams. The afternoon trip for Tom Collins saw over 30 bass on clams and Whole Squids !!! Squid - that's right ... Ask about our squid chumming !!!!!!

December 2002 Reports
December 7th - Last Trip
After the snow we did our final trip on 12\7\02- Andy Compton again had the pleasure of an open boat, 18 degree, icy deck, true fishing adventure. Capt. Lou took them to N.Y.; 3 drifts for 12 Bass up to the 26 lber. Mike Russo released! Not bad for the last trip. Thank you all for another great season! BOOK EARLY FOR 2003; DATES ARE GOING FAST!!!! HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!!!!!!!
November 2002 Reports
November 30th - - Capt. Phil was aboard with the Andy Compton party and they STORMED about 25 Bass
November 29th - Bob Spina party was aboard for over 60 Bass on top water action. Yes; 60! Capt. Lou did the honors
November 26th - PM. - The David party did not do as well as the south wind picked up in the afternoon. Capt. Lou put them into 10 Bass on top water action
November 26th - A.M. Passaic Engraving party slammed the fish with over 30 Bass caught on STORM shads on top! Capt. Lou was on board.
November 24th - Gene Croddick party braved the elements and were rewarded with a cooler full of nice Bass! Limited out on top water action
November 21st - The night bite was just not there for the George Berse party. After fishing hard at many spots the fish would not bite!
November 20th - After losing alot of weekends due to wind we got back out on 11\20\02 with the Mike party catching 25 Bass to 15 lbs. Capt. Lou was aboard
November 15th - Jeff Merrill was aboard for some Bluefish action and one Bass on eels. south wind go away.
November 12th - Capt. Lou limited out with Tom Collins party on eels in the channel!
November 10th - Julio party had a tough morning with only 2 Bass boated! To much south wind!
November 8th - Kevin Harding party limited out on eels with Capt. Lou in the morning but Al Peruzzi's party wasn't that lucky on the night trip with 4 Bass up to 20 lbs.
November 4th - George Berse party got a little wet and managed a couple nice fish despite a 4 knot drift
November 3rd - Leo Smith was out with Capt. Lou and after some hard work finally caught some nice Bass at the point with eels

Oct 24th - Tim Aungst party fished with Capt. Lou for a couple nice fish on eels at night. slow pickins.

Sept 29th - Capt. Lou had Mike Donleavy party out for a slow pick of Bass. PM- Capt. Lou was out with the Ford family for a better bite of Bass and Weaks.

Sept 17th - - Mike Corblies was out for a nice morning with a SANDY HOOK GRANDSLAM being caught- BASS, BLUES, WEAKS, FLUKE and an ALBIE!
Sept 7th - Greg McPeek party was out for a slow pick
Sept 3rd - - John Demura family was out with Capt. Lou for a good catch of a mixed bag.
August 2002 Reports
August 30th George Berse Party from Chicago were aboard with Capt. Phil this am for a catch of 10 Stripers including a 29 ½ incher, 3 slots and the rest shorts drifting sand worms off the Hook !! Water temp has dropped after the NE wind. Only one Weakie but loads of Bluefish in the Bay.
August 24th - Bill Hanrahan party were with us again for another great morning! The water temp. dropped a few degrees so I decided to make a few drifts for Bass with worms 1st thing this morning and there they were! We caught 6 Bass including 2 keepers and then when on to put a beating on the Weaks. Another nice day at the office!!!
August 23rd - Todd Higby party was out with Capt.
Phil for a nice catch of Weaks to 5lbs in

August 10th - TACKLE BOX SPORTFISHING takes 3rd place in MONMOUTH BEACH\BAHR'S WEAKFISH TOURNAMENT! Jimmy Leone, Matt Calabria aka (DA POACHER), Felipe Benedit and Capt. Phil fished the a.m. only and caught all 3- 3 1\2 lb. fish. on a nice morning of worming.

June 22nd - THE squid man Rocky Ruggerio and friends limited out to 15lbs.. Really had to work for them this morning, caught a few on worms.
June 21st - Art Snyder party caught the limit on clams at the knoll. Not as crazy as it has been. Water starting to get warm

June 17th -Coach & George were out with Capt. Lou for a great limit catch on clams at the Knoll.

May 26th - Capt. Lou had the Ford family out for the N.Y. limit has well up to 24 lbs.. The past few weeks have been great! We will see if the full moon effects the bite this week.
May 24th - Mike Russo party had the N.Y. limit to 27lbs.. 5\25\02- Ricky Gallo party had the N.Y. limit to 28 lbs.. Both trips released alot of fish over 20lbs. with Capt. Phil.
May 21st - Capt. Phil had Tim and Scott Gibney out for a great morning. After trolling our N.Y. limit up to 15 lbs.. We went and snagged some Bunker and then live lined Bass of 18 and 22 lbs. which we released. Alot of Bluefish bites as well. Alot of fun!
May 19th - TEAM TACKLE BOX fished the ASA tournament and had a fantastic day ;over 20 Bass in the 20 lb. range with 2 fish around 25lbs. Bunker chunking and spooning and STRETCH SEA SNAKES did the work,
Phil Sciortino, Sr. had the biggest fish. No doubt, a great day, but we needed a bigger one today. Congrats to Capt. Barry on his TRUE WORLD boat , "FIN ANGLER". And thanks to BAHR'S and the ASA for a great tournament!

May 10th - John Sloboski party had Bass to 35" and lots of Blues trolling Stretch's and chunking
May 7th - The Brian Murray party had a BONANZA this morning!!! Snagging and live lining produced all the big Blues you could handle. But the Bass had no chance to get the Bunkers, so we took our freshies away from the schools and anchored. Within 5 minutes we got the Bass going! Our catch included a 28 lber., 2 fish at 25 lbs. and about 5 fish in the 20 lb. class. Plus numerous 15 to 19's. Can everyone say.....BONANZA! This is what it's all about.
May 4th - - Pete Sivo Jr. & Sr. were aboard for the a.m. trip in which we trolled Stretch's for Bass to 20lbs.. All were released because we were in N.Y. waters. (N.Y. opens 5\8\02) 5\4\02- p.m.- Mr. and Mrs. Billy Milko were aboard for a Anniversary trip ! Wormed 5 Bass in the Rip and then had a wind increase to about 30 knots! They'll never forget this anniversary!
April 2002 Reports
April 27th - The Bill Hanrahan party was aboard this morning for 12 Bass to 15lbs. trolling Stretch's in the Reach. And loads of Bluefish on the Bunker chunks. 4\30\02- Tim Hoarle party was treated to the most fantastic Stretch trolling I've ever seen. You couldn't even get the plugs in the water!! If you had a fish on and started to reel the other plug in you got a Bass! Unreal! Over 30 Stripers in about 2 hours, 4 in the 20 lb. range, the biggest 22 1\2 lbs. on the Boga grip.
April 23rd - Mrs. Bobby Daley treated her husband Pete to a Tackle Box charter for his birthday! They braved the 30+ knot winds and we fished up the Navesink river. One of the first Bunker Pete snagged was eaten by a 35" Striper. Not long after Bobby's fresh chunk fooled a 32"er. Then the big, I mean big Bluefish took over. Swarms of giant Blues kept us in plenty of action all morning.
April 19th - Today all heck
broke loose... The lucky anglers were the Andy Compton party from

May 17, 2001 - For some reason (maybe
east wind) the Brian Pollita party had a tough night,
started with clams and bunker in back bay and caught a 35'' right away, well
that was it! A few Bluefish bites and then it was
dead. I made a move. anchored off Romer
light and read them thick! Luckly, a 28 lber. was
hungry and we fought and landed it. Had them under the boat all night but they
wouldn't bite!
May 12, 2001 A.M Trip - Pete Sivo was in Bass heaven!! You want to
talk about having fun! Snagging and live lining Bunker is a ball. Pete caught a
couple really nice fish to 20lbs.. And watching
monster Blues chasing and eating you baits right at the boat was a real site!!
Was that an alligator? Line of the day; "Phil, you should advertise this
kind of fishing!" ( with a bent rod!)
May 12, 2001 P.M Trip Cancelled
due too, small craft adv. up, wind really blew went the front came through then
it seemed nice. Until the Northwest started to blow at about 8 p.m., good call!
May 11, 2001 Dan & Bob Mesteyer
had a hard time catching any small fish! We couldn't limit out because all the
fish were over 29", with 4 fish over 35". holy
bunker!!!!!
May 10, 2001 -Art Hyslap
party wanted to target just the biggens! So I said
let's chunk Bunker; It was a pretty big fleet clamming so we stayed away from
them. A slow start with only a few Blue bites. Then a couple of nice size Bass to 35". Then the tide
started to slow down and so did the bite, but not before Art hooked into a nice
fish that went 37
May 8, 2001 A.M Trip Gene Bleiweiss returns and
wants a big fish, "Phil, lets troll spoons." Okay Gene. But with the
east wind the past few days it was slow. Gene caught a 32" and a 22lber.. He'll take it!
May 8, 2001 P.M Trip - John Bozko
duo caught a tough nite, practicly
had to pay the Parkway toll we went so far up the Bay but the southeast was
cranking and there was some fish there. Dropped in with the clams and started
to get some action, dropped a few, caught a few and then the tide eased up and
we were finished. Not a good night. Bass fishing can be frustrating! Good guys
though. Thanks
May 5, 2001 - My mate
Felipe and I fished for 4 hours in the a.m. and were trolling spoons looking
for a big fish. We caught almost 20 fish all over 32" ,
2 fish 15lbs and a 18 lber.. Not good enough for the
tourney but we had a blast before we had to go to work at 10 a.m
May 4, 2001 - Al Perruzzi
party does it again! The Striper limit. Repeat of
night before; trolled Stretch's until dark and caught some nice keepers then we
anchored off Keansburg buoy and fished clam bellies. We were probablly done in an hour! But had to
much fun talking about the Jerky Boys, tuff guy! Good job fruitcake
May 3, 2001 Mike Russo party limited out! P.M. trip
started out trolling Stretch's off Keansburg; caught 3 over 28'. Set up with
clam bellies and got them going good, caught 13 more fish from 22 to 31".

Tackle Box Sportfishing
season opens with a bang!!!!!!! Eugene Bleiweiss had
the 1st trip of the year and what a great trip it was! Ran back to the Keyport
area off the Reach and trolled STRETCH 25's ( chartruese w/blue or green back was hot!) Gene
caught and released 26 Stripers from 20" to 32". Great fun on light
rods and mono line! Seems to be a day bite though, my
P.M. trip today with Tony Ariotta wasn't quite as
exciting. Ran hard to back bay to get the last of
daylight and trolled 2 slots right away on the STRETCH's,
after dark set up on anchor a few times and picked away with clams. Tony had a
great time and ended up with his limit. In total 9 Bass to 31".

[June 28, 2001 - Matt Tomczyk party caught a few shorties, 3 slots and a keeper keeper on worms.
June 28 2001-a.m.- Jeff Beam party, all the way from
California had a nice morning catching the "SANDY HOOK GRAND
SLAM"(Did you notice the lightning bugs? The WEAKIES are in, The WEAKIES are
in!!!!!! Caught them to 5 lbs. plus Bass to 33", with Fluke and Blues! Worming the Channels.
June 26, 2001 a.m.-

June 26, 2001-p.m.-
Art Snyder party caught 3 shorts, 3 slots and a keeper keeper
on worms! Plus a Fluke, nice fillet job Art!!!

July 28, 2001 Dave Stickle party had a picky morning, but managed a 5lb. and 7 1/2 lb. Weakfish. It's good to see them.
July 21, 2001 A.M.- Fromkin party had to deal with alot of boat traffic. I should of left an hour earlier like I did yesterday. oh well, we scratched out 1 keeper and 2 shorts.
July 21, 2001 P.M.- Now this is more like it! Nobody out and great fishing! Phil and Emil Rivas limited out to 30" with plenty of action and throw backs on Sand worms
July 20, 2001 - Brian Pollitto party limits out!!!! Wow, haven't said that in a
few days. Wormed Bass this morning to 32" on the edge of
the channel,

August 31, 2001 -Eugene Bleiweiss and his grandson Jordan Hemingway (yes, he's related to Papa!) had a great time with the Weaks to 4lbs..
August 21, 2001 -Chuck Many went solo today with me and caught the Weakfish pretty good at the "4" and "SP" buoy's. Also, had a shot at the "1" can at the pt. of the hook. A nice morning!
August 18, 2001- Bill Hanrahan party had Weakies to 5 lbs. today along with plenty of Porgies! ( the Porgies are back!!!!!!! get alot of worms!!! ) For the Weakfish try a 3 ft. dropper with a12" leader and use a plastic worm along with a real one. That's the ticket. TOURNAMENT PROVEN.

I fished the tourney with Felipe Benedit, Bobby Phillips Jr. and Bobby the III. We caught over 35 Weakies and weighed in our 6 biggest, up to 5.2 lbs. for the victory. Thanks to TRUE WORLD MARINE and ST. CROIX RODS for helping me get another tournament win!
August 8, 2001 - Tank and Marty came out and wormed 4 keeper Bass. Read alot but they would not eat!
August 3, 2001 - Waitt Party caught weakfish to 8 1/2 lbs and one bass with a mix of Fluke and Blues. Nice Action.
September Reports
September 18, 2001 - cancelled all trips last week after the tragedy. Today I took the kids out and caught some Porgies and Weakfish. They had a ball and that night we had a fish fry, Thanks. Uncle Felipe!

September 8, 2001 -Brian Larsen party beat the odds and hooked into 6 Stripers on worms ( shorts and slots) and lost a bigger one at the boat on a eel. It should get better now that were off the moon.
September 5, 2001 - My mate (for the past 8 years) and cousin; Capt. Nick LaViola ran the boat today and put Stew Rosen's party into the Weakfish limit. He did a great job and you'll be hearing more of Nick's name in the future!
September 4, 2001 - John Dorsy party had a tough night, caught a few Weaks before dark and then watched the Bass on the fish finder; not bite! Frustrating.
September 1, 2001 - The Berse boys; George, Nick and Matt were aboard for a great morning of Weakfishing. All had the limit but only kept a few!

October 30 2001 - A.M. My man Gene jigged slots and shorts around the Hook this morning. P.M.- Tim Aungst party limited out to 18 lbs. on eels at the point of the Hook. Fantastic Fishing!
HI-MAR Striper Tournament 10\20\01 and 10\21\01- My mate Felipe Benedit and I fished the HI-MAR Bass tourney over the weekend and ther was no lack of fish! We fished 2:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. both mornings and caught 47 Stripers, yes! I said 47. The problem was (yes-the problem?) the fish were cookie cutters, mostly all 13 to 16 lbs., only a problem when your looking for big ones. oh well, we had fun. And my arm hurts.....this stuff I should leave to my customers. A great weekend!
October 19, 2001- Author Gary Caputi and Terry Sullivan were aboard this morning for a photo shoot for the TRUE WORLD MARINE catalog. Im glad to say I found some fish. We caught and released over 15 Bass to 18lbs. on eels, and hopefully got some good shots
October 16, 2001 - My regular Gene and I along with Dave May got wet butts and a ass kicking this morning. Dropped 3 fish at the rip and retired to the river early. Isn't salt good for your complexion? oh boy
October 13, 2001 - Pete Sivo Jr. & Sr. limited out to 18 lbs. on eels in the a.m.. All in deep water. They had all big fish over 32'' and only kept 1 to eat. Nice going guys

-After 2 "no Bass" night trips this past few weeks we finally hit it
right! My regular; Gene
Bleiweiss was solo this morning and ready for a nice relaxing trip. Got to
the "rip" just as the outgoing was going to start and we moved out
with the Northwest breeze but the fish I was reading only started to bite once
the tide started to ebb! Well Gene's relaxing was over; he boated 6 fish over
15lbs., 2 that were 20lbs. and a 12 lber., not to
mention the 10 minute battle with an alligater! All on Sand
November 27, 2001 - A.M. trip - Gene Bleiweiss did his last trip of the year and caught some
great fish- including a 17lber and a 19lber on the Boga

November 10, 2001 - The trip I donated to the American Cancer Society was won by the Croddick family! We went out for a couple hours and had fun with some slots on Eels in the channel
